Occasional Wine Note: We tasted this one against the Tapiz Black Tears Malbec as we were deciding on our Spring allocation. The Tapiz ultimately made the allocation cut, but we enjoyed this one as well and thought it worthy of sharing via our Anytime wine program. This is made from single vineyard Malbec and Carmenere grapes blended brilliantly. Lots of fruit with a bit of spice and soft tannins. A real beauty.

The aromatic, floral and showy 2018 Las Cruces Old Vine Series is the best year for this field blend that is harvested when the Malbec (approximately 75% of the blend) is ripe, and in 2018, it was extremely precise. At this point in time, the 15th of March, the Carmenere was quite green, and it seems to have added a lot of spark on the palate and a spicy touch. This is a serious, balanced and deep red blend, with very fine, refined tannins. There is a sensation of energy, inner power and elegance. This is hands-down the best vintage for Las Cruces.
